Pitching Leads The Way In Split With Hawks

DETROIT, MI – The Ocelots kicked off their final MCCAA series on Thursday, playing host to the Hawks from Henry Ford College.

Game 1 – Game 1 of the twin bill would prove to be quite a pitchers' duel. The starter for Schoolcraft, Austin Smolenski, would throw 6 innings, allowing just 4 hits, 3 runs, 0 earned runs while striking out 5 batters. John Sowards would come out of the bullpen to pitch the 7th and would allow just 1 hit and strike out 1 batter. On the offensive end, Schoolcraft would show only 6 hits. Tashawn Eatmon would have 2 hits with Bryan Tuttle, Ben Cannon, Dalton Vance, and Barrett Barker each chipping in 1. All 5 runs in the game, all of which came in the 2nd inning, would be unearned.

Game 2 – Philip Miller got the start in game 2 for the Ocelots and would continue the stretch of good pitching on the Schoolcraft side for the day. Going 6 innings and earning the win, Miller would give up 4 hits, 0 runs and strike out 4 hitters. Calbin Gonzalez came on to pitch the 7th inning, allowing 0 hits and striking out 1. All of Schoolcraft's runs would come in the first 3 innings. The Ocelots would take control quickly, scoring 4 runs in the first and not allowing the Henry Ford starter out of the 1st. Schoolcraft would have 1 total hits, led by Owen Elsey and Vance with 3 each. Others in the hit column would be Sawyer Pace, John Sowards, Dominic Westfall, and Andrew Thorning.

Schoolcraft returns to the diamond on Saturday, finishing off MCCAA play for the season with another double-header with Henry Ford. Saturday's double-header will start at 1:00 PM at Hamtramck Stadium.
