Ocelots Kick Off MCCAA Play With A Sweep

NORTHVILLE, MI – The Ocelots opened up MCCAA play by hosting the Skippers from St. Clair County Community College.

Game 1- Kaitlyn Solberg got the start in the circle for the Ocelots and the first-year pitcher would rise to the occasion. For the game, Solberg would register 14 strikeouts without walking a Skipper while going all 7 innings and not allowing an earned run. The 4 runs Schoolcraft scored in the bottom of the 1st would be all they would need. The Ocelots collected 7 hits, led by Madison Gray with 2, while Lucy Whelan, Savina Olada, Vanessa White, Hailey McCleary and Melanie Buzo each registered 1.

In that 1st inning, Madison Gray's first hit would be a single that would plate Whelan who opened the inning with a single. Olada, who reached on a double, would score on a wild pitch to make the game 2-0. The next 2 runs would come in off RBI singles from McCleary and Buzo.

Game 2- The 2nd game of the doubleheader would see the SC4 Skippers jump out to a 6-2 lead going into the bottom of the 5th inning. In the bottom of the 5th, things would change into Schoolcraft's favor. The Ocelots would plate 5 runs in the frame to take a 7-6 lead which would be just enough for Schoolcraft.

Things would get off to a hot start for Schoolcraft in that inning. Katelyn Rozycki would kick the inning off with a single and she would be brought home on a big fly off the bat of Olivia Mikowski to bring the game within 2. Danielle Dalpiaz would follow the home run up with a double and a Skipper error would allow her to score off the bat of Whelan. 2 outs would follow Whelan's at bat before she would tie the game on a wild pitch. Following Whelan scoring, Sydney Scoggins would pinch run for Madison Gray, who walked, and would steal 2nd before Melanie Buzo would give the Ocelots the lead with an RBI single.

Schoolcraft continues MCCAA play on Sunday as they travel to Mott Community College for a doubleheader.
