ROCKFORD, IL – The 2024 women's soccer season got kicked off today as the #11 Schoolcraft Ocelots hit the road to visit the #14 Rock Valley Golden Eagles.
Fresh off a 5-hour bus trip, the Ocelots were ready for the early season top 15 matchup. Throughout the first 40 minutes of the game, the scoreboard would be held at 0. In the 42nd minute, Daniela Alvarez would tip in a ball that snuck through the goalkeepers' hands. Just over a minute later, it would be Alvarez again, flicking her foot on it to tip it over the goalkeeper, on a pass from Trista Bird.
Kate Shippe got her first career start in net for the Ocelots. Shippe would be up for the challenge. The freshman tender would stonewall 3 Rock Valley shots and the lone blemish on her card came in the 75th minute on a ball just out of her reach.
The Ocelots would attempt 16 shots, 1 from Kaiyah Gromadzki, 4 from Jessica Clyde, 4 from Alvarez, 2 from Victoria Kebbe, 1 from Grace Ferraro, 1 from Brynn Riley, 1 from Trista Bird, 1 from Samantha Guciardo, and 1 from Lizzy Kirkey.
The Ocelots return to the pitch on Sunday for another ranked road test. Schoolcraft is slated to face off against the #7 ranked Heartland Community College Hawks. Kick-off is slated for 11:00 AM EST.
