HUNTSVILLE, AL – The Ocelots began their title chase opening the NJCAA National Tournament with a game under the lights.
The 1st half would prove to be very evenly matched between the 5th ranked Holmes and the 9th ranked Ocelots. Holmes was able to get on the board first in the 11th minute on a rebound off of a blocked shot. However, Holmes would not hold the lead for too long. In the 15th minute, Schoolcraft would earn a corner kick and would be able to take advantage of it. Jessica Clyde would be able to bend one around the goal from the corner to tie the game at 1 a side. Things would remain at 1 each at the halftime break with shots favoring Schoolcraft 7 to 6.
Things would turn in the 2nd half, favoring the Bulldogs. Holmes would score in the 53rd minute, with the goal proving to be the game winning goal for Holmes. Schoolcraft would only be able to register 3 shots in the 2nd half while Holmes could get 12. Holmes added a late goal in the 89th minute to push their lead to the final score of 3-1.
With the Holmes win, the Bulldogs advanced out of Pool D as they defeated Phoenix on Sunday. Schoolcraft closes out their season on Tuesday when they meet up with the 4th ranked Phoenix Bears. Kick-off is slated for 8:30 PM EST.
