Zang Deals as Ocelots Cruise Past Jets
Detroit, MI- The Schoolcraft Ocelots baseball team (11-11, 3-1) was able to cruise past the visiting Jackson College Jets (10-8, 3-1). The final score for the contest wound up being 8-1, in favor of the Ocelots.
The first three innings of the game were very quiet as no runs would score from either side. Schoolcraft was finally able to get on the board in the bottom of the fourth when #24 Andrew Thorning would ground into a double play, plating #50 Bryan Tuttle, who led the inning off with a single. Following Thorning's at bat, #28 Mason Malysz, would have a huge two out single to bring home #29 Noah Felder. Felder had followed up Tuttle's single with a single of his own earlier in the inning. Schoolcraft would hold that 2-0 lead until the top of the sixth when Jackson would finally plate a runner on a one out single. The Ocelots would quickly strike back in the bottom half of the inning. The bottom half began the same as the bottom half of the fourth, Tuttle and Felder both singling to lead off the inning. Following those two singles, #22 Nate Saavedra would single to the left center gap to bring home Tuttle; Malysz would hit a sac fly to bring home Tuttle and #1 Sawyer Pace would single to bring in Saavedra and Thorning, who walked earlier in the inning. Overall, the Ocelots would plate four runs in the bottom half of the sixth to bring their lead to 6-1. Schoolcraft would add more insurance runs in the bottom half of the eighth when #18 Landon Kempainen and Tuttle both singled to plate Pace and Sowards, respectively, who both walked earlier in the inning.
Overall, it was a solid day from the plate for the Ocelots. #50 Bryan Tuttle went 3-4 with a walk, 2 runs scored and 1 RBI. #29 Noah Felder went 2-5 with 2 runs scored, and #28 Mason Malysz went 2-3 with 2 RBI.
The story of the game however, was #4 Jack Zang's domination. Zang would wind up going 8.1 innings with 8 strikeouts, 3 hits, 1 walk and 1 earned run. #23 Jon Sabuda came in to close the game out, quickly getting the ensuing two Jackson hitters to ground out.
