Schoolcraft Sweeps Macomb and Extends Streak

Macomb, Mich- On Saturday (April 15), Schoolcraft traveled to Macomb to wrap up their season series against the Monarchs. On the year, leading up to Saturday, Schoolcraft was 3-0 against Macomb on the season. The Ocelots were 7-4 in conference play while Macomb was still searching for their first win.

Game 1: In game 1 of the doubleheader, it was unlike any game these two teams have had up until this point. Offense was very much nonexistent, seven total hits combined in the game. Pitching was key in game 1 as the Ocelots starter, #15 Austin Smolenski, went 6.1 IP, 1 R,0 ER, and 14 K. #7 Connor Scheer got his third save on the year, stiking out both batters he faced. Macomb got their lone run in the bottom of the fifth when Smolenksi would walk a run in for the Monarchs. Schoolcraft trailed 1-0 heading into the top of the seventh as that is when the Ocelot bats decided to wake up. Schoolcraft would get two out of the first three guys at the plate on base, by way of walks. That is when #17 Ryan Koch stepped up to the plate and decided to turn the game around. Koch would blast a 3-2 pitch over the left center fence to push the Ocelots into the lead 3-1. Macomb would get one runner in the bottom half but Smolenski and Scheer would combine to strike out three batters in the inning to close out the game and an Ocelots victory.

Game 2: Game 2 was more like the type of games we have seen in the series, lots of offense. With the 25 combined hits in the game, there would be 19 combined runs scored over the 7 innings of play. Thru three innings of play, Schoolcraft was leading by a score of 5-4 as there was plenty of offense going around. The game would stay tight up until the top of the sixth when the Ocelots would plate five runs in the inning. The final score would read 11-8 in favor of Schoolcraft. Some highlights from game 2 included, #1 Sawyer Pace (2-4, 2 R), #24 Andrew Thorning (2-4, 2 R), #50 Bryan Tuttle (2-3, 1 RBI), #8 John Sowards (2-3, 1 RBI).

With both wins in the doubleheader, Schoolcraft extended their winning streak to seven games and also swept the five game season series from Macomb. Schoolcraft returns to the diamond on Tuesday (April 18), as they host MCCAA Western Division foe, Kalamazoo Valley Community College (12-14, 5-8). First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
