Five Ocelots Receive Honors

Earlier today, the MCCAA and NJCAA Region 12 announced their post-season awards for the 2023 baseball season. Five Ocelots were lucky enough to take home awards. 

Jack Zang (Divine Child High School): Zang was lucky enough to take home the most honors for the Ocelots. Zang would rack up All-Region 12, All-MCCAA, 1st Team All-Eastern Conference, Eastern Conference Freshman of the Year, Eastern Conference All-Freshman Team and Eastern Conference Co-Player of the Year. Zang was the ace of the pitching staff the whole year, accumulating a total record of 5-2 with 10 games started. Over the 51 innings pitched, Zang would have an ERA of 3.35, team leading, and a total of 12.88 K/9. 

 

Landon Kempainen (Howell High School): The sophomore outfielder had himself quite a day as well with the honors, Kempainen would take home, All-Region 12, All-MCCAA and 1st Team All-Eastern Conference. Kempainen would be the leading force behind the Ocelot offense, amassing to a .410 average (team leading), 37 RBI, and 20 stolen bases. 

 

Sawyer Pace (Tecumseh Vista Academy): The Canadian freshman shortstop for the Ocelots brought home a couple of awards. Sawyer Pace would earn 2nd Team All-Eastern Conference and Eastern Conference All-Freshman Team. Pace, by far and away, led the team in HBP totaling 19. Pace would have .376 average on the year, adding a home run to his line and also 26 RBI. Pace would join Kempainen for the team lead in stolen bases with 20. 

 

Nate Saavedra (South Lyon East High School): The main power threat for Schoolcraft brought home 2nd Team All-Conference. Saavedra hit .270 on the season with 6 home runs. Saavedra would tie Kempainen for second on the team in RBIs at 37. Saavedra would add 6 doubles to go along with his 6 home runs. 

 

Bryan Tuttle (Riverview Gabriel Richard High School): The Freshman first baseman for the Ocelots would bring home Eastern Conference Honorable Mention for his performance this season. Tuttle would slash .333| .412| .418 for the year. To go along with his average, he would show some power on the season with 1 home run and 9 doubles. Tuttle led the team in RBI with 38 on the season.
