Pitching and Timely Hitting Earns a Double-Header Sweep

PIQUA, OH – Coming off a successful spring trip, the Ocelots hit the road to square off against a Region XII opponent in Edison State Community College.

Game 1- The first game of the doubleheader between the Ocelots and the Chargers would see quite an offensive performance from Schoolcraft. While only scoring 7 runs, the Ocelots would still rack up 15 hits as a team, seeing every starter notch at least 1 hit. Tashawn Eatmon and Bryan Tuttle would both earn 3 hits for the game to pace the offense. Schoolcraft would get the scoring started in the 2nd inning when Andrew Thorning would single in a run and Tashawn Eatmon would later single Thorning in to take a 2-0 lead. The Ocelots would lead by as much as 4-0 before Edison State would get on the board thanks to a 2 run single. Schoolcraft would once again get their lead to 4 before the Chargers would tack on 2 more in the bottom of the 6th. Schoolcraft would take a 7-4 lead in the top of the 7th thanks to a solo home run off the bat of Owen Elsey. Dalton Vance would pitch a clean bottom half to earn his 1st save of the season. Riley Niggemeyer got the start for the Ocelots and would pitch 5 innings, allowing 1 earned run while striking out 5 batters.

Game 2- Things would be tough out of the gate for the Ocelots in game 2. While scoring in the top of the 1st, going into the top of the 6th, the Ocelots would find themselves trailing by a score of 3-1. The tide would turn for Schoolcraft in the 6th, with bases loaded and 1 out, Abel Gutierrez would single in Mason Malysz. Later in the inning, Issander Vega would score on a wild pitch with 2 outs to tie the game before Thorning would single in Zach Perpich and Guterrez to take a 5-3 lead. Elsey would tack on a run in the top of the 7th, scoring Tuttle to extend the Ocelot lead to 3 runs heading into the bottom of the 7th. The Elsey single would prove to be the difference maker as Edison State would cash 2 runs in on a double with 2 outs in the bottom half before Connor Bucher would come in to strand that runner at 2nd and earn a save. Michael Moore earned the win on the bump going 6.2 innings, allowing 4 earned runs and sriking out 5.

Schoolcraft returns to the diamond on Thursday, March 14, for their technical home opener. Hosting Mid-Michigan, this will be the first time on the season that Schoolcraft will play at the corner ballpark. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:00PM.
