Late Offensive Push Earns Ocelots a Split in DH

DETROIT, MI – With the weather in the past week postponing the doubleheader on Thursday, Saturday's DH marked the start of the 4-game set with Mott.

Game 1- Not much would get going for the Ocelots in game 1. Being held to just 4 hits on the offensive side, Schoolcraft would be unable to plate a run across 7 innings. Although Mott would plate 7 runs, only 4 of the runs that came across would be earned thanks to 4 Ocelot errors. Sawyer Pace, Dominic Westfall, Ben Cannon, and Barrett Barker would account for the 4 Schoolcraft hits.

Game 2- For a while in the back end of the twin-bill, it looked like the same result was coming for Schoolcraft, being shut out. However, going into the bottom of the 6th,down 1-0, the offense would find its spark. Getting ignited with a Bryan Tuttle double, Schoolcraft would plate 3 runs in the inning to take a 3-1 lead. Knocking in the 3 runs would be, Tyler Allos (single), Mason Malysz (sac fly) and Ben Cannon (double). In the top of the 7th, Mott would get a 2 out triple to bring the game within 1 run before the next batter would fly out to left to cap off a 3-2 Ocelot victory.

Starting on the mound and getting the win was sophomore Austin Smolenski. Smolenski would go innings, allowing 4 hits, 1 earned run and strike out 5. Abel Gutierrez came on in the 7th to earn the save.

These 2 teams will meet again tomorrow, April 7. Another doubleheader is on the docket as the Ocelots and Bears look to close their season series. First pitch is at 1:00PM in Kearsley Park in Flint.
