2nd Half Comeback Not Enough for Ocelots

2nd Half Comeback Not Enough for Ocelots

LIVONIA, MI – The Schoolcraft Ocelots men's basketball team played host to the #19 ranked Mid-Michigan Lakers.

With the Ocelots looking to get their 2nd win of the season, it would not come at an easy price. The #19 Lakers would come out firing at the start of the 1st half outscoring the Ocelots 11-4 over the first 5 minutes of the game. Over the next 2 minutes, Schoolcraft would fire back and rattle off a run that at the end of it would see them with a 14-11 lead. For the rest of the half, we would see both teams fighting back and forth, ultimately, with the Lakers throwing more punches and leading at the half by 10.

Schoolcraft would not back down without a fight for the duration of the 2nd half. For a majority of the 2nd half, it would be a back-and-forth contest with not much changing in the deficit for the Ocelots. However, with 8:22 left in the game, Schoolcraft would cut the Laker lead down to 7 after 2 free throws from Marshall Thorn. From that moment, Schoolcraft would have life and energy. After 2 more free throws, this time by Ashton Henderson, Schoolcraft cut the deficit to only 5 points. Following a steal and a Daniel Lee layup, all of a sudden Schoolcraft was only down by 3. That deficit of 3 would be as close as the Ocelots would come as the reminder of the game would see a majority of the teams capitalizing on their free throw attempts. After 40 minutes of play, it was the Mid-Michigan Lakers on top by a score of 79-72.

Ashton Henderson would lead the Ocelots in points with 19. Other Ocelots in double figures would be Marshall Thorn (12 points) and Kechan Johnson (14 points). Thorn would also lead Schoolcraft in rebounds with 5 and Keon Henderson would lead Schoolcraft in assists with 3.

The Ocelots are back on the floor on Tuesday, November 21, at Lakeland Community College with tip-off at 7:00 PM.
