Bio

Troy Barron begins his first season as an assistant ice hockey coach at Schoolcraft College. He comes to Schoolcraft with 24 years of coaching experience from youth hockey to college hockey.

A native of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, Barron played hockey for South St. Paul High School. He followed his high school career up with three seasons for St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota from 1996-1998. At St. John’s, he played under Head Coach John Harrington from the USA 1980 Olympic team.

After college, Barron moved to Michigan and entered the marketing side of hockey and coaching. Barron has helped numerous players in achieving their goals of playing junior, college or professional hockey. Barron continued as a trainer and a coach for various levels of hockey throughout the state of Michigan. From 2000 to 2009, Barron’s coaching experience led him to a state championship and a national runner up with the USA Eagles U18 AA team. Along with his U18 AA team, Barron also guided his USA Eagles PeeWee AA team to a state championship and a national semi-final appearance.

Coach Barron was the head coach of the Oakland University D3 ACHA team for seven seasons (2009-2016). Barron led the Grizzlies to four national appearances. In 2014 and 2016, Barron was awarded with the ACHA and MCHC Coach of the Year award along with the Dream Team Coach of the Year award. During his final season at Oakland, the Grizzlies won the ACHA Division III National Championship along with the MCHC Vezina Cup. The Grizzlies finished that season with a 36-1-2 record.

Barron was the head coach for the Victory Honda AAA hockey program for the 2006 age group from 2016-2022. Barron led Victory Honda to the semi-finals at the state championships in 6 out of the 7years.

Coach Barron resides in Canton, Michigan with his wife Lori and his two sons, Michael and Blake.
