#6 Ocelots Win Region XII Tournament

MARYSVILLE, Mi – The Schoolcraft men's soccer team faced off against the #17 ranked GRCC Raiders for the Region XII championship.

It was a top 20 matchup with a chance to move on to the district final next weekend and the first half certainly played like it. There were plenty of opportunities for each side in the first half. Schoolcraft would rip off six shots, making the Raiders keeper save three of those shots. The Ocelots keeper, Brenden Ware, would make an impressive save on the Raiders before GRCC would be able to get a header past him in the 35th minute of the game. At the half, Grand Rapids would lead the Ocelots by a score of 1-0.

However, it would not take long for the Ocelot offense to wake up. Just 41 seconds into the second half, it would be no other than the Schoolcraft leading scorer, Dante Davidson, to tie the game up and energize the Schoolcraft bench. Schoolcraft would take the lead in the 63rd minute when Tommy Mittelstadt cut across the field just outside of the box and would kip a left footed shot into the top left corner of the net to push the Ocelots out in front. Just ten minutes later, in the 73rd minute, Davidson would score his second of the game, his 29th goal of the season, to extend the lead to two goals. Ware would make two saves in the second half to keep the Raiders at one goal.

With the win, #6 Schoolcraft will move on to play in the Northeast district championship against Mercer County. The game will be played on either November 4 or 5 with the time TBD. The Northeast district championship will be played right here in Livonia at the Ocelot Soccer Complex. The winner of that game will receive an autmotic bid into the NJCAA D2 National Championship Tournament in Tucson, Arizona.
