KALAMAZOO, Mi- The 2023-24 basketball season got underway for the #14 Schoolcraft women's basketball team as they hit the road and traveled to Kalamazoo Valley Community College.
The whole game was a perfect opener for the Ocelots, stellar defense to pair with a solid offensive output. The defense would be what stole the show for the Ocelots. Schoolcraft was able to hold Kalamazoo Valley to under 10 points in every quarter including just 1 point for the Cougars in the 4th quarter. The highest scoring quarter for Kalamazoo would be the 1st quarter where they score 9 points.
On the offensive side, it was a spread-out performance with nine different Ocelots scoring points. Sharon Smith would be the leader for Schoolcraft. Smith scored 15 points on 7/10 shooting and making her only free throw attempt. The only other Ocelot in double figure would be Kyra Lawrence who scored 10 points on 3/8 from the field including 2/4 from 3 and 2/2 from the free throw line. Erin Young (4), Demi Rodriguez (9), Sydney McCaig (5), Aliyah Thilavanh (3), Aniyah Gamble (2), Halle Rogers (4), and Taylor Williams (9) would be the rest of the Ocelots with points.
