Schoolcraft Suffers First Defeat Of The Season

LIVONIA, MI – The Schoolcraft Ocelots women's basketball team played host to the Lakers from Mid-Michigan college.

The first quarter would be a quick start for the Ocelots. Just over 2 minutes into the game, a quick 8-2 Ocelot run would force the Lakers to call an early timeout to try to slow Schoolcraft down. Their plan would work as over the next 4 minutes of the game, Schoolcraft would only muster up 4 points. However, Mid-Michigan would not be able to get the game tied over that stretch. After the 1^st quarter, Schoolcraft would lead 17-12. The Lakers adjustments coming into the 2^nd quarter would quickly be on display. In the 2^nd quarter, The Ocelots would be outscored 23-9 to go into the break trailing the Lakers by a score of 35-26.

The 3^rd quarter would see Mid-Michigan extend their lead even more by outscoring Schoolcraft by 5 points (23-18). The 4^th quarter would see the Ocelots return to their 1^st quarter form. Entering the 4^th quarter, the Ocelots were trailing 58-44. Over the entire quarter, Schoolcraft would try and slowly cut into the Laker lead. With 1:32 left in the game, Demi Rodriguez would hit a 3-pointer that would get the Ocelot deficit down to 5 (71-66). However, that 5 point deficit would be as close as the Ocelots could get. After some late game fouls and free throws, Mid-Michigan would hand the Schoolcraft team their first loss of the season by a score of 77-69.

For the Ocelots, it would be the previously mentioned Demi Rodriguez who would lead the team in points with 28. Sharon Smith would be the only other Ocelot who would climb into double figures for the game with 10 points. Rodriguez would also lead the team in rebounds with 14 allowing her to finish the game with a double-double. The assist leader for the Ocelots would be Sharon Smith who helped on 5 Ocelot baskets.
