Defense Dominates in Big Win

LIVONIA, Mi- The Ocelots women's basketball team played host to the Lady Bears from Mott Community College in the second MCCAA contest.

Defense would be a key part to the Ocelots 2nd conference win in 2 conference games. It would get started right off the bat as Mott would be held off the scoreboard up until there were nearly 5 minutes gone in the 1st quarter. At this time, Schoolcraft would be in the lead 8-0 and not turn back. The Bears would only attempt 9 shots in the 1st quarter, making 3, while turning the ball over a total of 11 times. Demi Rodriguez and Kyra Lawrence each posting 6 points would lead the way to a 19-7 Ocelot lead after 10 minutes. The 2nd quarter would see much of the same. Schoolcraft would once again hold Mott to 7 points while this time, Schoolcraft would score 20. Sharon Smith led the way with 11 2nd quarter points leading into the Schoolcraft 39-14 halftime lead.

The plan was simple, coming out of the locker room, just to stay on the course. The defense would falter a tad in the 3rd quarter, allowing 19 points, more than Mott scored in the entire first half. However, the Ocelot offense would have their best quarter, posting 23 points, led by 13 from Demi Rodriguez. The defense would pick back up in the 4th quarter, allowing only 8 points and forcing 10 turnovers. Aliyah Thilavanh would lead the 4th quarter scorers with 6 points.

4 Ocelots would score in double figures with Kyra Lawrence and Nevaeh Cable each with 10, Sharon Smith with 14 and Demi Rodriguez leading the team with 22. In her 2nd start of the year, Halle Rogers would post 9 points and also tie the team lead with 8 rebounds. As a team, Schoolcraft would register 15 steals and 1 blocked shot.

The Ocelots are back in action on Saturday, January 20, as the host MCCAA foe, Wayne County Community College. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00PM.
