Big Second Half Propels Ocelots Over Jets

JACKSON, Mi – The Ocelots hit the road on Wednesday to square off against the only other undefeated team in the MCCAA Eastern Division, the Jackson Jets.

The Ocelots got off to a quick 5-0 lead by forcing a couple of Jet turnovers in the first few minutes of the game. Jackson would quickly get back into the game and it would be on from there between two teams receiving votes. In the 1st quarter, Halle Rogers would lead the Ocelots by scoring 5 out of the teams 14 points. Schoolcraft accounted for 8 steals in the 1st frame on their way to leading the Jets by 1 point. The 2nd quarter would see the two teams trading blows again. This time, it was Sharon Smith leading the Ocelots in points with 7 out of the teams 16 points. Schoolcraft would be outscored in the 2nd quarter by 1 point to go into the half tied at 30 apiece.

Coming out of the locker room, the Ocelots would be locked in on the defensive end. In the 3rd quarter alone, Schoolcraft would register 10 steals while forcing 12 Jackson turnovers. Schoolcraft would end the 3rd quarter leading by 4 with help from Kyra Lawrence registering 8 points over the 10 minutes. Holding Jackson to just 14.3% from the field, the Ocelots would break the game wide open on their way to a 13-point victory. Taylor Williams would have 4 points and 4 rebounds in the final frame helping Schoolcraft outscore Jackson 18-9.  

For the game, Kyra Lawrence would register her 2nd highest scoring game of the season, scoring 19 points on 7/17 from the field. Kyra would also lead the team in rebounds with 9, falling just short of a double double. Again, leading the team, Lawrence would have 8 steals in the game with Sharon Smith right behind her with 6. Smith would lead the Ocelots in assists with 3.

Schoolcraft hits the road again on Saturday, February 3, facing off against another team receiving votes in the polls, St. Clair County. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 PM in Port Huron.
