Comeback Effort Not Enough As Ocelots Fall To Skippers

PORT HURON, Mi – The Ocelots traveled to Port Huron on Saturday to square off against a St. Clair County Community College team that was receiving votes in the most recent polls.

The Skippers would come out hot in the game and remain hot for the entire 1st half. St. Clair would score 24 points in the 1st quarter and 22 points in the 2nd quarter on their way to a 23-point halftime lead. The offense in the 1st half for the Ocelots would struggle to find its groove. For the whole 1st half, Schoolcraft would shoot 28.5% from the field while turning the ball over 18 times.

Coming out of the locker room, this game would prove to be a game of 2 halves. Schoolcraft would find its offensive stride in the 2nd half trying to march a big comeback. There would be a little progress made in the 3rd quarter for Schoolcraft, outscoring the Skippers by 3 points while shooting 53.3% from the field. Unfortunately for the Ocelots in the 3rd quarter, the Skippers would almost match the offensive show with shooting 46.2% from the field. The 4th quarter would prove to almost be the best quarter for the Ocelots all season. With their sights on a 20-point comeback in the last 10 minutes, Schoolcraft knew they would have to play almost perfect basketball, and they almost did. The Ocelots would outscore the Skippers 23-7 in the 4th quarter while shooting 40% from the field with 0 turnovers. Schoolcraft would hold St. Clair to 33.3% shooting with 7 turnovers. The 20-point deficit would prove to be too much, falling just 4 points short of the comeback.

Kyra Lawrence would pace the offense for Schoolcraft, scoring 17 points and also pitching in 7 rebounds. Taylor Williams would lead the team in rebounds with 9 and also throw in 10 points in 17 minutes off the bench. As a team, Schoolcraft would outrebound St. Clair 44-32 including 17 offensive rebounds for the Ocelots.

The Ocelots return to the court on Wednesday to continue their road trip as they embark on Macomb Community College looking to sweep the season series over the Monarchs. The Ocelots came out victorious by a score of 71-62 the last time these squads faced off. Tip-off is slated for 5:30PM.
