1st Half Struggles Prove Costly For The Ocelots

FLINT, Mi – The Ocelots hit the road looking for their 7th conference win on the season and looking to sweep the season series with the Mott Bears.

The 1st half would prove to be a difficult one for the Ocelots on the offensive end. For the entire 1st half, Schoolcraft would only put up 15 points, leading to a halftime deficit of 16 points. Playing all 20 minutes in the half, Kyra Lawrence led the way offensively putting up 6 points while also grabbing 10 rebounds. For Mott, Aniya Phifer would lead the way on offense with 14 points in the 1st half.

The 2nd half would see a difference on the scoreboard for the Ocelots. In the 3rd quarter, Schoolcraft would put up 22 points, 7 more than the entire 1st half, while outscoring Mott 22-8 to trim their 16-point deficit to just 2 points. Nevaeh Cable led the Ocelots with 6 points in the quarter while Halle Rogers would grab 6 rebounds. In the 4th quarter, Schoolcraft would outscore the Bears, but it would not be enough to complete the comeback. Taylor Williams would post 6 points while grabbing 2 rebounds.

Turnovers would be the demise for the Ocelots. Schoolcraft would turn the ball over a total of 33 times compared to the Bears 28 turnovers. The Ocelots would be dominant on the boards. Schoolcraft would grab 49 total rebounds, led by 13 from Lawrence and 10 from Rodgers, compared to just 34 from Mott. 24 offensive rebounds would lead to 16 more shot attempts by Schoolcraft, but they would not be able to capitalize by shooting just 33.3%.

The Ocelots look to bounce back on Wednesday as they hit the road to Wayne County Community College to complete their 6-game road swing. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30PM.
