Ocelots down Muskegon

Livonia, MI- The Schoolcraft Ocelots women's soccer team opened conference play with a 2-0 victory over Muskegon Community College.

Schoolcraft was quick to forget about their 1-0 loss yesterday as they came out firing in windy conditions and jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute when Paige Stephens put one in the net with help from Kyra Brandon and Ashley Hughes. Schoolcraft kept the pace slow in the first half while they were playing into a strong wind. Outside of the goal, Schoolcraft would only muster four more shots in the half.

With the wind to their back in the second half, the offense opened up a little for the Ocelots. Schoolcraft was able to ten total shots in the half, forcing the Muskegon keeper to make eight saves in the half. Kyra Brandon was able to get one past the keeper early in the 55th minute. Brandon was helped by Paige Stephens and Bella Elliott on the play. Jami Martindale kept her clean sheet in the second half with two out of her three saves coming in the second half.

Brandon led Schoolcraft in both shots (6) and shots on goal (5). Other Ocelots with shots were Stephens (2), Kihana King (1), Isabela Grande (1), Victoria Kebbe (3), Daniela Alvarez (1) and Bella Elliott (1). Elliott and Grande would put both of their shots on goal while Kebbe put two out of three on net and Stephens with one out of two on net.

The #7 ranked Ocelots return to the pitch on August 26 at 12:00pm as they hit the road to face Monroe Community College (NY).
